This server is running Synapse, a Matrix server. Matrix is an open standard for interoperable, decentralised, real-time communication over IP.

Element is a convenient client and runs in any modern browser. It also runs natively on Android, iOS, Linux, Mac and Windows. You can compile it yourself from source or pick another client at matrix.org.
